Ingredients
- 1 turkey (about 10 to 12 lbs)
- 1/2 to 1 tsp spices poultry
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 large onion cut in half
Steps
- Combine poultry spice with salt and pepper. Put in the cavity of the turkey. Add the onion halves and carrots and celery. Place the turkey in the dripping pan.
- Brush with chicken broth.
- Bake in 350°F oven for 30 minutes then reduce the temperature to 300°F. Cook slowly and surely. Baste every 30 minutes.
- Cook the turkey to belly/breast side down so the meat is less dry. Cover. One hour before the end of cooking time, turn the turkey so it is again roasting on its back.
- Also, one hour before end of cooking time, uncover the turkey. This ill give it a golden appearance.
- Don't forget to baste every 30 minutes.
- Serve with vegetables of your choice and your favorite gravy.
