Ingredients

  1. 1 chocolate cake recipe (a cake mix will do)
  2. Pistachio pudding (or another flavour in which the pudding is green)
  3. Chocolate icing
  4. Candy for the eyes, your choice
  5. Pipe cleaner for the feet, or black licorice
  6. Grated chocolate, optional

Steps

  1. Split the cake recipe in two and bake: 1 medium cake for the body, one smaller cake for the head. Let the cakes cool completely.
  2. Once the cakes are cooled, place them on a serving plate, the body and head together. Make sure there is enough room in your refrigerator for your creation.
  3. Remove the inside of the cakes, leaving at least 1/2- to 3/4-inch walls and bottom. Set aside the inside of the cake.
  4. Prepare the pudding and pour it into the hollowed cakes. Let the pudding set in the refrigerator. Cover the tarantula with plastic wrap so the cake doesn’t dry out.
  5. When the  pudding has set, take the tarantula out of the refrigerator and cover it with chocolate icing. To cover the pudding parts with icing, first top the pudding with the extra chocolate cake. Don’t forget! Spiders are ugly. A messy icing job will only help your masterpiece!
  6. When the tarantula is covered in icing, add the eyes and feet. Don’t forget that spiders have 8 legs and they are attached only to the body.
  7. Sprinkle with grated chocolate to make the cake even more realistic.
