Ingredients
- 3 tbsp (45 mL) olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 1 carrot, grated
- 3 stalks celery, finely sliced
- 1 can (10 oz; 325 mL) cream of tomato
- 1 can (19 oz; 600 mL) tomato juice
- 1 can (28 oz; 825 mL) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (5-1/2 oz; 150 mL) tomato paste
- 1/2 bottle Chili ketchup (a large one)
- 1 tsp (5 mL) brown sugar
- Salt, pepper, crushed hot pepper flakes to taste
- 2 bay leaves
- 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) water
Steps
- In a tall heavy saucepan, heat the oil and brown the onion and garlic.
- Add the meat. Cook well.
- Add the vegetables.
- Add the remaining ingredients.
- Cover halfway and let simmer for 3 hours. Stir often.
