Ingredients

  1. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  2. 2 tbsp (25 mL) grated gingerroot (or 1 tsp/5 mL ground ginger)
  3. 2 tbsp (25 mL) soy sauce
  4. 2 tsp (10 mL) rice vinegar or cider vinegar
  5. 2 tsp (10 mL) sesame oil
  6. 1/2 tsp (2 mL) granulated sugar
  7. 1 top sirloin grilling steak or sirloin tip marinating steak, 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick (1 lb/500 g)
  8. 10 green onions, white part only

Steps

  1. In large bowl, whisk together garlic, ginger, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil and sugar. Trim fat from steak; cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes. Add to marinade; let stand for 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, cut onions into 2-inch (5 cm) lengths. Alternately thread onions and beef onto metal or soaked wooden skewers; brush with remaining marinade. Place on greased grill over medium-high heat; close lid and grill, turning 3 times, until browned but still pink inside, about 10 minutes.
