Beer-Cooked Ham

Ingredients

  1. 1 ham (4 lb; 1,6 kg)  
  2. 1 bottle (355 mL) beer 
  3. 1/2 cup (125 mL) molasses  
  4. 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar  
  5. 1 tbsp (8 g) dry mustard  
  6. 15 cloves, whole  
  7. 5 bay leaves  
  8. Pepper

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 F (150 C).
  2. Spaced evenly, push the cloves into the ham.
  3. Place the ham in an ovenproof dish. Set aside.
  4. In a bowl, mix the molasses, brown sugar and dry mustard. Add water as needed to make stirring easier. Pour evenly over the ham.
  5. Pour the beer over the ham.
  6. Add water until the ham is half submerged in liquid.
  7. Pepper and add the bay leaves around the ham.
  8. Cover and cook for about 5 hours at 300 F (150 C).
