The toppings for this knife-and-fork pizza are so flavourful and tasty that you don't need much cheese.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (500 g) lean ground beef
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp (2 mL) dried basil
- 1/4 tsp (1 mL) each salt, pepper and hot pepper sauce
- 4 cups (1 L) lightly packed shredded spinach (half 10-oz/284 g pkg)
- 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) pizza or pasta sauce
- 1 lb (500 g) pizza dough
- 1 cup (250 mL) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) crumbled feta cheese
Steps
- In large nonstick skillet, cook beef over medium-high heat, breaking up with spoon, until no longer pink, 8 minutes. Drain off fat.
- Add onion, garlic, basil, salt, pepper and hot pepper sauce; cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is softened, 5 minutes.
- Add spinach and pizza sauce; stir until spinach wilts slightly, about 1 minute. Remove from heat.
- On floured surface, roll out dough into 12-inch (30 cm) circle. Transfer to greased pizza pan. Spread beef mixture over dough right to edge. Sprinkle with mozzarella and feta cheeses. Bake in bottom third of 500°F (260°C) oven until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly, about 10 minutes.
