Tuna
We all recognize tuna as the versatile flaked fish in the small grocery store tins. Hard to imagine this fish can grow to a length of three metres, weigh a thousand pounds and swim at a phenomenal rate! Canned white tuna is one of the most commonly consumed fish in the world, but in the same family you find the bluefin tuna, typically eaten in the form of sushi. The bluefin tuna is the largest species of tuna and is a glorious catch for any fisherman! Unfortunately, due to over-fishing over the past twenty years, many experts are worried about the fate of the bluefin tuna. This fish is now an endangered species. Tuna is an excellent source of omega-3 and there are an endless variety of ways to prepare both fresh and canned tuna. You will find some interesting recipes featuring tuna below. However, bear in mind that tuna contains mercury and the Government of Canada has issued recommendations regarding the consumption of this fish. See the link below for details.
